And what you said about them being metal, I usually categorize the big 5 grunge bands as AiC is more on the metal side of things (I have friends who listen to very heavy metal that also listen to AiC because they sound similar), Soundgarden is less metal but heavier than other grunge bands, Pearl Jam is less heavy and has a lot of emotion in the songs, Nirvana is more political sided and kind of punk sounding, and Stone Temple Pilots has more of a "there is no hope" sound, especially on Purple. Don't get me wrong, AiC is one of my favorite bands and Layne has good vocals, it's just that so many people give him too much credit as being the best grunge vocalist and calling AiC the best grunge band.
